Social Studies 6
Instructor: Mr. Gray
My History class requires students to study the material nightly. Students need to comprehend the material and review it at home. We take Cornell Notes based off of the textbook info and my PowerPoint slides. (You can find my PowerPoints in the FILES section of my web page according to the chapter.) Students take notes from my PowerPoints in class, at home that night they are to write cues/questions in the left column, and the next day in class they write a 3-5 sentence summary of their notes.
Students will be turning in your chapter notes the day of the chapter test. Be sure they are neatly labeled, in order, and stapled.
There will beáa quiz for every two lessons. Be sure to complete the Reading Study Guides (RSG's), and youáMUSTáhighlightáevidence in the text that supports your answers. á

Weekly "History Bio Card"
You will need to create a "History Bio Card" every week. Your person to research needs to be related to the topics we are reading for the week. Ex. Ancient Greece 2000 B.C. - 100 B.C.
Using a 4x6 index card, create a History Bio Card. On the BLANK side, create a timeline with 6 events related to your subject. Use complete sentences and provide dates if possible. The events must be in order. On the LINED side, draw a line down the middle. On the left half, draw a colored illustration of your subject. On the right half, write a short paragraph telling why your subject is an important historical figure.
You will turn it in EACH Friday. This is a chance for you to go "beyond the textbook" and learn about someone of your choice as they relate to the week's lesson.

Parent Portal info
Parent Portal
Hopefully by now you all have a Parent Portal account established. If not, please set one up so you can monitor your student's grades. Click on the Parent Portal link under Parent Links; you will need your student's 9 digit permanent I.D. number (located on your student's schedule or on their I.D. Card) and a verification passcode. If you need the verification passcode, please call Diana Klimpel at extension 42110. You will also need an email address. Special note: when setting up the account, please make sure you use the phone number that you submitted on this school year's emergency release card. Finally, if you have set up an account but cannot remember the password, you will need to call Steve Dempsey at the district office. His phone number is 909-307-5300 ext. 20345. He can change the password for you.
